E. Arleen Gard

Mrs. Erma Arleen Gard, 80, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 6:10AM Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Memorial Hospital in Carthage, IL.

She was born July 24, 1932 in LaHarpe, the daughter of Charlie and Lena Moore Lovell. On March 14, 1954 she married Ralph Mowen in LaHarpe. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1995. Arleen then married Eugene Gard on August 31, 1996 in LaHarpe.

Arleen attended business school in Peoria. Earlier in life she worked as a secretary for an attorney in Macomb. She also worked for the LaHarpe State Bank, Terre Haute Café, and 20 years at Bowers in Macomb. She volunteered at the Senior Center in LaHarpe, area nursing homes and delivered meals on wheels. She also enjoyed going to the elementary school and listening to the children read. Arleen was a member of the LaHarpe American Legion Auxiliary where she was currently serving as president. She was also a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church.

Mrs. Gard is survived by her husband, Eugene, 4 sons, Dale (Debbie) Mowen of Burlington, IA, Don (Tammy) Mowen of Canton, IL, Duane (Kaye) Mowen of Colchester, IL and Dallas Mowen of Macomb, IL, 1 daughter, Luan (Jim) Akers of Carthage, IL, 1 step-son, Jeremy Gard of Burlington, IA, 2 step-daughters, Stephanie McEntee of Niota, IL and Amanda (Marcus) Twillie of West Burlington, 14 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and four brothers, Ardis, Keith, Jess and Cheryl Lovell.

Services will be held at 3:30PM Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the LaHarpe Christian Church with Nate McCarter officiating. Visitation will be held at the LaHarpe Christian Church from 1:00 until 3:00PM Saturday. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe American Legion Auxiliary, LaHarpe Christian Church and The LaHarpe Ambulance Service.
