N. Irene Whittemore

Mrs. Naomi Irene Tollman Whittemore of Dallas City, IL, lately of Oak Lane Nursing Home in Stronghurst, IL died at 6:20AM, Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Great River Medical Center in Burlington, IA.
Mrs. Whittemore was born November 20, 1920 in Kahoka, MO the daughter of Jesse and Naomi Briggs Tollman. On September 20, 1937 she married Kenneth Lee “Bud” Whittemore in Fort Madison, IA. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1984.
She worked at Sheaffer Pen and The Moose Lodge in Fort Madison. She was a homemaker and never knew a stranger. She would call everyone babe or honey and tell you her life story if you had a minute. Her family was her whole world. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and a 30 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Auxiliary 1287 of Fort Madison.
Survivors include 5 daughters, Donna (Dave) Tenpenny of Tucson, AZ, Reva Gorman of Dallas City, IL, Kay Peel of West Point, IA, Carol (Ray) Huss of Dallas City and Sally (Carl) Brickey of Kansas, 2 sons, Bill Whittemore of Dallas City and Greg (Lisa) Whittemore of Dallas City, 3 sisters, Betty James of Nevada, Justine Tieman of Arkansas and Helen Weibler of Texas, 2 sister-in-laws, Carolyn Whittemore of Chillicothe, IL and Phyllis (Ray) Nixon of Dallas City, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 1 son, Larry Whittemore, 1 daughter Beverly Hohl and 4 grandchildren.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until8:00 PM. A private family entombment will be held at the Dallas City Mausoleum. A memorial fund has been established. Send a condolence here.
