M. Sue Blakely

M. Sue Blakely, age 90 of Wapello, Iowa, formerly of Dallas City, Illinois, died at noon Thursday February 18, 2010 in the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Facility.

She was born January 13, 1920 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Leonard and Martha Powell Moulton. On May 10, 1941, she married Paul Blakely in Lomax, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 3, 1979.

Mrs. Blakely had attended the University of Illinois. She and her husband had owned and operated a laundromat and a laundromat repair and supply company in Clinton, Indiana for several years. She and her husband also owned a grocery store in Dallas City, and a locker plant in West Point, Iowa for several years. She was a member of the Order Of The Eastern Star, Methodist Church, and Women’s American Legion Auxiliary, all of Martinsville, Illinois.

Surviving are one daughter, Neva Sue Pefley of Brazil, Indiana, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Vivian McCulley of Columbus Junction, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son - Dick Blakely, and two sisters - Helen Jane Rhodes and Dorothy Reinbeck.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday February 22, 2010 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Illinois. Burial will be in the Terre Haute, Illinois Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. Monday until time of services at Banks & Beals. A memorial fund has been established for Great River Hospice.
