Lyle G. Terry

Mr. Lyle G. Terry, 90, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 4:20 A.M. at the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage, Illinois.

He was born April 30, 1919 in Dallas City, the son of Walter and Anita Hopper Terry. On April 13, 1940 he married Maxine Paulus in Lancaster, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2009.

He was a 1936 graduate of the Dallas City High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from 1941 - 1945. He was stationed in North Africa and later, China, Burma and India. In 1949 he became a Rural Mail Carrier and continued in that position until retiring in 1976.

Mr. Terry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He played lots of baseball on county teams and in a league at Nauvoo, Illinois. He was instrumental in establishing the Dallas City Veterans Memorial which was dedicated June 30, 2002. He was a member of the Dallas City American Legion and the Colusa United Methodist Church.

He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Thompson of Springfield, Illinois, 2 sisters-in-law, Eileen Lehr of Carthage and Lucille Terry of Macomb, Illinois, 11 nieces and nephews, 19 great nieces and nephews and 24 great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, Donald Eugene, 2 brothers, Ralph and Wilbur Terry, one sister, Erma Terry, 1 nephew, Keith Lehr Sr. and 1 niece, Diane Terry.

Services will held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. There will be no formal visitation but friends are welcome to stop at the funeral home, Friday, between 3:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City Veterans Memorial or the Colusa United Methodist Church.
