Esteline Gertrude Stevenson Griffin 
Esteline G. Stevenson Griffin, age 99 of Gladstone, Illinois died at 10:10 p.m. Monday January 5, 2010 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. She was born April 3, 1910 in Little York, Illinois, the daughter of Floss and Hazel Rowe Munson. Hazel later married Earl Morris and together, they raised Esteline from an early age.
Esteline was first married to Arthur Stevenson. They divorced. In 1964, she married Hoyt Griffin. He preceded her in death in 1972.
She was a 1928 graduate of Biggsville High School. She had farmed with her husband and grew popcorn for the Burlington theaters, which she attended regularly. She had also worked at the Iowa Ordinance Plant and as a nurse’s aide at the former Burlington Hospital for many years. Later she went into private nursing and served as a care giver for several families and relatives. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Henderson County Home Bureau.
Esteline focused her love and attention on her children and their families. She loved traveling, playing cards, flowers and parties. She had a sweet, kind and gentle spirit, and the love and memories shared, will be remembered forever.
Survivors include three daughters- Berniece Pettinger and Angeline Anderson, both of Gladstone, Marie (Crafton) Meeker of Kingston, IA., one son - Samuel (Bernita) Stevenson of Gladstone, two daughters in law - Nancy Stevenson of Gladstone, Kay Stevenson of Oquawka, seventeen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, and twelve great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-father- Earl Morris, four sons- Robert Louis Stevenson, William Stevenson, Wendell Stevenson, Arthur Stevenson, Jr, and one brother - Willard Munson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 9, 2010 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Jeffrey Robbins officiating. Burial will be in the Carman Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
